The Top Priorities of Buyers and Sellers in Real Estate Agents

Discover what characteristics consumers look for in real estate professionals to help navigate a transaction successfully.

Study from the National Association of REALTORS(r) indicates that most home buyers and sellers use real estate agents–nearly 90%–when making real estate decisions; but specific assistance they require depends on factors like age and experience in the market, according to this new research study.

Home buyers need assistance not just with finding, but also in negotiating and learning more about the real estate process, according to NAR’s 2024 Home Buyers and Sellers Generational Trends Report.

“While agents remain the main information sources during a home search, mobile and tablet search devices were also important information sources,” according to a study. Furthermore, sellers often turn to professionals for assistance with pricing their homes competitively and marketing them effectively – all while meeting a timeframe or finding ways to upgrade them for maximum returns on sale.

Young home buyers tend to cite understanding the real estate process and steps as one of the hardest parts of buying their first property, according to this study. Older adults ages 44 or over often feel more at ease heading into this purchase process due to having previous experience buying homes; nearly one quarter reported no difficult steps but still report finding suitable properties and closing transactions successfully.
